Ata Zhurt Kyrgyzstan wins 15 seats in 90-member parliament, followed by Ishenim with 12 seats, says election commission.
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (AA) – Kyrgyzstan’s central election commission announced the full results Wednesday of last month’s parliamentary elections, with the ruling Ata Zhurt Kyrgyzstan (Homeland Kyrgyzstan) party finishing first.
The commission said Ata Zhurt Kyrgyzstan won 15 seats in the 90-member parliament followed by the Ishenim (Trust) party, with 12 seats.
The Yntymak (Accord) party came in third with nine seats, followed by the opposition Alliance party with seven seats.
The central election commission said turnout in the Nov. 28 vote was 34.94%.
While 21 political parties took part in the elections, only six passed the national threshold (5%) and regional threshold (0.5%)
In the seventh term of Kyrgyzstan’s parliament, all political parties will be represented by 54 seats. Meanwhile, a total of 36 seats were won by independent candidates.
According to the country’s Central Election Commission, over 1.28 million voters went to the polls.
