Hungary will not veto an increase in the European Peace Fund, which is used to finance arms supplies to Ukraine.

According to the Report, this statement was made by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó in an interview with the VRT TV channel.

Szijjártó emphasised that the European Commission has proposed increasing the European Peace Fund by EUR 5 billion this year to compensate for arms deliveries by EU countries to Ukraine.

“We will not participate in this because arms deliveries are a red line for us. But Hungary cannot and will not prevent others from doing so,” he said.

He also said that Hungary was pleased with the EU’s decision to send 50 billion euros in financial aid to Ukraine, adding that it was important for Hungary to establish a mechanism to control the spending of the funds sent to Kiev and to guarantee the inviolability of blocked euro funds due to Hungary. Szijjártó assured that both of these conditions had been fulfilled.
