Secretary of the State of the Ministry of Road and Transport Development of Mongolia Batbold Sandagdorj met with Ambassador of Italy Giovanna Picarreta.

“The Ministry of Road and Transport Development has paid special attention to expanding international road transport relations and increasing foreign trade, and signed an intergovernmental agreement on road transport relations with Slovakia, Poland, and Germany in 2022-2024. We have presented a draft of an intergovernmental agreement on international transport with Italy and want to accelerate the work,” Batbold Sandagdorj said.

The Secretary of State also expressed the Ministry’s willingness to continue the collaboration in establishing the air transport agreement, holding negotiations on the draft agreement shortly.

Batbold Sandagdorj mentioned Mongolia’s intention to work together with the United Nations and related organizations and conduct research to establish a UN Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) under the World Food Programme at the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport. He also expressed a desire to visit UNHRD in Brindisi, San Vito, Italy, and cooperate with relevant organizations. He also emphasized the investment opportunities in the dry port to be established in Zamin-Uud and future port projects.

Establishing UNHRD in Mongolia will have a significant social and economic impact, including expansion of domestic production and services, and further supporting active cooperation with the United Nations.

Ambassador Giovanna Picarreta expressed her support for increasing the trade turnover and having direct flights between the two countries. The Ambassador noted the possibility of concluding the intergovernmental agreements on road and air transport on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Italy to be marked in 2025.
