President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has rejected the bill proposing harsher penalties for illegal tree felling, said Alisher Kadirov, vice speaker of the Legislative Chamber and leader of the Milliy Tiklanish party.

“The fine for illegal tree felling in the US is $100,000, in France $150,000, and in Saudi Arabia $8 million. The president rejected the bill that provides for a fine of up to $1,000 for this. The objection is appropriate, we will review the bill,” he wrote.

The bill was passed by the Senate on May 3. According to the document, for illegal felling, uprooting, damage, destruction or transplantation of trees, shrubs, other plants and young growth there is a fine for individuals from 3.3 million to 4.95 million soums, or 300 to 450 USD and for officials – from 450 million to 600 USD.
