A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and Malaysia in the field of co-operation in the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) was inked virtually on 13 July 2021 at 15:45 hrs Bangladesh time. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Malaysia signed the MoU on behalf of the Government of Malaysia while for the Government of Bangladesh it was signed by Mr. Nasrul Hamid, State Minister of the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources of Bangladesh. During their speech, as respective Chief Guest, both the Ministers mentioned that signing of this MoU has marked an important milestone in the bilateral relations between the two trusted friends in their long journey of the 50 years of diplomatic relations. The Ministers hoped that signing of this MoU will augment our existing bilateral trade to a new height, including paving the way for the further commercial/economic engagement between the two friendly nations.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md. Golam Sarwar, and High Commissioner of Malaysia to Bangladesh, Ms Haznah Md Hashim delivered the welcome speeches during the event.
Among others, the Chairman of Petrobangla, representatives of Petronas, Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources of Bangladesh and Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department of Malaysia, and officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as High Commissions of both the countries were present during the signing. Moreover, representatives from the press and media of both countries were also present at this virtual event.
