Yesterday on October 10, Uzbekistan sent almost 100 tons of humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan affected by the earthquake, the press service of the Ministry of Transport said.

The delivery was overseen by the president’s envoy for Afghanistan Ismatilla Irgashev.

The cargo included food items: flour, wheat, butter, pasta, meat products, rice, sugar. In addition, humanitarian aid includes tents and blankets, as well as first aid supplies.

The Uzbek delegation was welcomed by the chairman of the earthquake relief commission formed by the Afghan government, Sharafuddin Muslim Mawlawi, his deputy Ahmadullah Muttaqi and the deputy minister of transport and civil aviation Abdul Sattar Gurwal.

“Uzbekistan is a brotherly country that has always been the first to help us. I myself have received help from your country several times and participated in its distribution among our suffering people. […] As our best neighbor, you always support us in the days of difficult trials sent by God. Our people will never forget this,” said Sharafuddin Mawlawi, expressing gratitude on behalf of the government and people of Afghanistan.

Abdul Sattar Gurvol added that the government commission was working to respond to the consequences of the earthquake. First of all, assistance is being provided to the sick and those whose homes have been destroyed. Until today, humanitarian aid has been received from the UAE in Afghanistan, and it is expected that assistance will also arrive from Turkey.

6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in Afghanistan on the morning of October 7. The epicenter was located 40 km northwest of Herat, the fourth largest city in the country and the capital of the province of the same name. The main shock was followed by several aftershocks, completely destroying several villages. More than 2,400 people were killed and about 2,000 residents were injured.
