Turkmenistan and Russia Set a Course to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin, at a briefing for journalists in Ashgabat, emphasised the high level of development of political relations between the two countries, as well as the dynamic expansion of the geography of economic cooperation. Ivan Volynkin noted that the Russian-Turkmen dialogue is steadily strengthening at high and highest levels. He cited the upcoming visits of the President of Turkmenistan, Mr Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2023, as well as the visit of the Russian Prime Minister, Mr Mikhail Mishustin, to Ashgabat.

The Ambassador expressed confidence that new interesting meetings between the Russian and Turkmen structures will take place this year. He also announced that the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Second Russian-Turkmen Business Forum will be held in the first half of 2024.

Ivan Volynkin emphasised that Russia is one of the five main trading partners of Turkmenistan. He noted the successful work of the Intergovernmental Commission and the active trade turnover between the two countries, which in 2022 exceeded $ 1.6 billion.

In general, the Ambassador’s briefing showed the strength and versatility of the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia and its progressive development in various fields.
