KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – AUGUST 17: Azerbaijan’s peacekeepers are continuing their assigned tasks, said the country’s defense ministry in a statement on Tuesday (Aug. 17).
“The general condition of the Azerbaijani peacekeepers serving at the Kabul International Airport of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is stable,” said the ministry, adding that Azerbaijani peacekeepers are currently performing security and defense tasks in the sector assigned to them.
“120-man peacekeeping unit of the Azerbaijan Army, together with Turkish forces, continues to carry out its duties to ensure the security of the airport,” noted in the statement.
The Taliban have taken over Afghanistan after capturing the capital Kabul on Sunday (Aug. 15) and are in the process of establishing their government that had been removed after US-led foreign forces occupied the country in 2001.
