Finland plans to send military personnel to the Red Sea region

Finland will send troops to participate in two operations to ensure the safety of navigation in the Red Sea region.

According to the Report, citing TASS, the government office said in a statement.

“Finland will participate in Operation Eunavfor Aspides with a maximum of five soldiers and Operation Prosperity Guardian with a maximum of two soldiers,” the statement said.

Following the escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Ansarullah movement warned that it would strike Israeli territory and would not allow the ships concerned to pass through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian territories ceased. The Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since mid-November last year.

In response to Ansarullah’s actions, US officials announced the formation of an international coalition and the preparation of Operation Prosperity Guardian to ensure freedom of navigation and ship security in the Red Sea.
