Putin discusses Afghan situation with Russian Security Council

‘We will continue consultations with our partners’ on Afghanistan, says Russian president.

MOSCOW (AA) – Following a deadly terrorist attack at Afghanistan’s Kabul airport that killed over 90 people on Thursday, the Russian president discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan with the country’s Security Council, the Kremlin said on Friday.

“We will continue to discuss with you the situation related to the events in Afghanistan, continue consultations with our partners, and exchange information about our contacts,” Vladimir Putin told the meeting in Moscow.

He added that “the whole range of issues” related to the Afghan conflict was on the agenda, including work in the diplomatic, military, and humanitarian areas.

The Taliban seized control of Afghanistan after taking Kabul on Aug. 15, forcing former President Ashraf Ghani and other top officials to leave the country.

The attack on Thursday targeted areas just outside the Kabul airport, where crowds have been gathering, seeking a way to get in and find flights out of the country.
