Uzbekistan ramps up gas exports to China despite falling production

In June, Uzbekistan increased the export of natural gas to China in value terms, the China’s General Customs Authority said. Reportedly, in April, Uzbekistan resumed the export of gas, which for that month topped $40.47 million. In May, the volume of deliveries increased by $78.16 million, and in June – by another 9.1%, or by $85.27 million.

In total, in the first year-half, exports reached $203.9 million, which is two times less than in the same period last year – $406.3 million. This can be explained by the suspension of gas exports in January-March against the background of the energy crisis in Uzbekistan.

If we compare the figures for only three months (April, May and June), we can also note that last year the volume of exports was 1.6 times more than this year.

The Statistics Agency reported that the total volume of gas exports in June amounted to $76.9 million, which is 8% less than in May (from the beginning of the year – $278.4 million).
