US evacuates over 95,000 people from Afghanistan since Aug. 14

Since end of July, around 101,300 people relocated, White House says

ISTANBUL (AA) – The US has evacuated and helped evacuation of around 95,700 people from Afghanistan since Aug. 14, the White House said on Thursday.

“Since the end of July, we have re-located approximately 101,300 people,” the White House said on Twitter.

According to the statement, around 13,400 people were evacuated from Afghanistan over the last day.

“17 U.S. military flights evacuated approximately 5,100 people and 74 coalition aircraft evacuated approximately 8,300 people from Kabul,” the statement added.

The Taliban’s lightning takeover of the capital on Aug. 15 set off a scramble to leave Afghanistan, including among locals who have worked with US forces and organizations and fear for their lives under the Taliban rule.
