Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias met with Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani as part of his visit to North Macedonia.

Ministers after the meeting between the delegations and one on one held a joint press conference.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Osmani, said that Greece is the fourth economic partner of North Macedonia and that there is good cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy.

Osmani said: “This is important not only as a prerequisite for economic development, but also as part of the future security architecture of the region. Not only Europe, but also the Balkans must improve their energy independence by diversifying energy sources.

“We need interaction and cooperation. This is not only a matter of economy, but also a matter of security,” the minister said.

Noting that the process of European integration for North Macedonia is also a security issue, Osmani thanked Greece for its support in this process.

Greek Foreign Minister Dendias stressed that preliminary negotiations on the accession of North Macedonia to the European Union must begin immediately.

Expressing that Greece is actively working to maintain peace, security and stability in the region, Dendias said: “We believe that the only way to achieve these goals is to openly and fully support the European perspective of the Western Balkans.”

Referring to the economic relations between North Macedonia and Greece, Dendias expressed his satisfaction that the volume of trade between the two countries has reached pre-epidemic levels and announced good news about potential energy investments in North Macedonia.
