Berlin urges Pyongyang to comply with its obligations under UN Security Council resolutions.
BERLIN (AA) – Germany has condemned North Korea’s test of a newly developed ballistic missile, accusing Pyongyang of violating existing UN Security Council resolutions.
“This ballistic missile test constitutes a serious violation of the obligations set out by the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and thus jeopardizes international and regional stability and security,” the German Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
It called on North Korea to comply with its obligations under the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and accept offers made by the US and South Korea to begin talks for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
“North Korea is bound to the complete, verifiable and irreversible ending of its programs to develop weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles,” the ministry said.
On Wednesday, South Korea and Japan said Pyongyang fired a ballistic missile toward the East Sea in the first such test of 2022.
North Korea confirmed the launch on Thursday, with a statement published by state news agency KCNA saying that the country tested a new “hypersonic missile.”
