Niger officially announces its withdrawal from ECOWAS

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has received official notification from the Niger authorities of the country’s withdrawal from the organisation.

Niger has sent an official notification of its withdrawal from ECOWAS, the Report reports, citing Reuters.

Earlier it was reported that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was ready to start negotiations to resolve the situation created by the withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger from the organisation.

Previously, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger had announced their immediate withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

According to a spokesperson for the Niger military authorities, the organisation had clearly failed these states in their fight against terrorism and in improving their security situation.
