New speaker of Kazakh Mazhilis elected

Yerlan Koshanov was elected the new speaker of the Mazhilis, a lower house of Kazakh parliament, APA reports citing Kazakh media.

Before election, Koshanov was the head of the presidential administration from September 2019 until January, governor of Karaganda region since March 2017, head of the Prime Minister’s Office since February 2012 and the head of the Civil Aviation Committee.

Ex-Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin tendered his resignation. Nigmatulin was twice elected Chairman of the Mazhilis.
