PM highlights importance of Georgia’s EU candidate status for South Caucasus

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Friday highlighted the importance of the country’s European Union membership candidate status for the South Caucasus region.

The fact that Georgia has become a candidate for European Union membership is, of course, important not only for our country and citizens, but also for the [South Caucasus] region”, Garibashvili said at a press conference with the Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan. “I would like to emphasise once again that it is necessary to continue working on projects of regional significance at a high pace”, he added.

The PM also noted Pashinyan had shown “interest” in initiatives such as the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project – intended to connect the grid of the region to those of EU countries – and other ideas the Government was “currently working on”.
