Stoltenberg wants to invite Ukraine to NATO “at some stage”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that “at a certain stage” he would like to invite Ukraine to become a full member of NATO.

The news was reported by “RBC-Ukraine” citing Fox News.

Responding to a question about a possible confrontation between Russia and NATO if Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance is supported, Stoltenberg said it was a “good thing” for the Alliance and the United States to support Kiev.

The Secretary General recalled that NATO was originally created to prevent wars.

“I am Norwegian, we border Russia. When Norway joined NATO, the Soviet Union called it a provocation. It was not a provocation, every sovereign nation has the right to choose its own path. Norway has this right, Sweden and Finland have this right, Ukraine has this right,” Stoltenberg said.
