Germany Suspends Tank Engine Supply to India

German officials have informed Indian partners that they will be able to supply New Delhi with engines for Arjun tanks within four years at the latest.

The news was reported by ANI news agency citing a source in the defence establishment.

“German engine manufacturers have indicated that it will take about 48 months to restart production of engines used in Arjun Mark 1A tanks,” the agency quoted the source as saying.

It is stated that India is now trying to take advantage of this delay and develop its own engine suitable for this tank. Previously, a German MTU diesel engine was used in these vehicles.
