Sweden on Tuesday cordoned off the Baltic Sea area around the Nord Stream leaks in the Swedish exclusive economic zone (EEZ) as prosecutors carry out a preliminary investigation.
Shipping, anchoring, diving, fishing, navigating an underwater vessel, and carrying out geophysical mapping are banned within 9.3 kilometers (5.8 miles) of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, the Swedish Coast Guard added.
The Swedish prosecutor has launched investigations into the causes of the leaks in the Baltic Sea.
The coast guard did not disclose information regarding how many ships and submarines are currently in the region.
Four leaks in the Russia-owned Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were reported off the coast of Denmark and Sweden, with ships warned not to approach the area.
Both countries, as well as the EU, said there were signs that the leaks were the result of deliberate action and not an accident.
Russia stopped natural gas deliveries through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline on Aug. 31 as necessary maintenance could not be carried out.
