Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic emphasizes historical closeness, solidarity with Greece
Serbia and Greece on Friday reaffirmed their strong historical ties, friendship, and alliance.
The move came during the official visit of Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias to capital Belgrade where he met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic.
After the meeting, Vucic drew attention to the strong friendship, historical closeness, and solidarity between the people of the two countries.
The statement said that the two talked about regional cooperation and the need for intensive cooperation for the stability of all countries in the region.
“I talked with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Nikos Dendias, about the improvement of bilateral relations, the process of European integration of Serbia, economic cooperation, as well as other regional issues of importance for both sides,” said Vucic on social media.
Meanwhile, Minister Selakovic and Dendias, in their address to the media, said that they will continue to work to strengthen cooperation in all fields.
Selakovic thanked Greece for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and added that the support of the European Union (EU) countries, which do not recognize the independence of Kosovo, is important for them.
Five EU countries, Greece, Slovakia, Spain, Romania and Greek Cypriot Adm., currently do not recognize Kosovo’s independence which broke away from Serbia in 1999 and declared its independence in 2008. Serbia has not recognized this and continues to lay claim to the territory. Kosovo also aims to achieve full EU membership.
