Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday that Russian Ambassador Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko informed him of the reasons that prevented Minister Lavrov from coming to Belgrade.

Following his meeting with the Russian Ambassador, Vucic said in an Instagram post that Botsan-Kharchenko also presented documents proving his claim. The Serbian President said he would elaborate on Monday evening in a live appearance on the state television (RTS).

Botsan-Kharchenko told Izvestia newspaper earlier that the Serbian economy could face problems if it imposes sanctions on Russia.

“Serbia’s economy is very connected, in the positive sense, with Russia. Everyone understands that anti-Russia sanctions would result in considerable damage to the economy and society”, said Botsan-Kharchenko.
