North Korea proclaims victory over COVID-19

North Korean state media outlet Rodong Sinmun announced on Saturday the country’s “victory” over COVID-19. It praised leader Kim Jong-un for his handling of the pandemic, including the “timely and scientific” measures regarding quarantine, APA reports citing Teletrader.

“With great foresight and strong determination, he built up the country’s quarantine barriers by taking preemptive and strict measures since the first outbreak of the malicious virus,” the outlet stated, according to South Korea’s Yonhap. North Korea did not release daily COVID-19 figures, but it did concede that it had a wave of infections over the spring and summer, with hundreds of thousands of daily cases.
