Meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and Korea

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan news, on 29 November 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Chung Eui-yong, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan at the invitation of the Tajik side.

During a bilateral meeting, the sides discussed the state and prospects of Tajik-South Korean relations. The parties had a constructive exchange of views.

Both sides noted the importance of further maintaining mutual contacts at the high levels, as well as strengthening inter-parliamentary ties and inter-departmental consultations.

It was highlighted with satisfaction that the status of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Korea in Tajikistan was elevated to the level of the Ambassador.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation in the field of economy and trade. The sides agreed that they will make additional efforts to increase mutual trade.

During the official visit, the parties signed the Protocol Amending the Convention between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea for the Avoiding of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income, which will expand the package of bilateral Agreements.

Comprehensive exchange of views took place on topical issues of the regional and international agenda.

The Foreign Ministers discussed the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on security in the region.

The parties agreed to hold joint events on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea next year.

On the topic of the Central Asia-Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum, the Ministers noted with satisfaction the importance of this permanent mechanism for strengthening practical cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the countries of Central Asia.
