Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday that the Ukraine-style holding peace talks did not bring the country any good.
Speaking at a press briefing in Moscow, Peskov called “a Ukraine-style” the statement by the head of Ukraine’s delegation at the peace talk with Russia, Davyd Arakhamia, who said Kyiv might return to the negotiating table in late August.
“A more than eloquent demonstration of negotiations in Ukraine-style. Actually, we have known this style for a long time. This style did not bring anything good to Ukraine,” he noted.
Earlier, Arakhamia said that Kyiv could return to negotiations with Moscow by the end of August after the Ukrainian side is likely to conduct a counteroffensive in some areas.
He also stressed that Ukraine “will not accept the loss of territory. It is legally impossible.” At the same time, he added, it is possible to “consider a political agreement” similar to the one proposed in Istanbul in March this year.
Asked about inviting former German Chancellor Angela Merkel as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, Peskov pointed out that the politician resigned and declared her unwillingness to continue any political activities.
Russia and Ukraine launched the peace talks on Feb.28 and have held since then several rounds of negotiations.
According to the Russian side, the process has stalled after Moscow handed Kyiv the latest version of a draft of a peace treaty in April, since then, the Ukrainian side has not been in touch.
More than 4,500 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the war started in Ukraine on Feb. 24.
Over 14 million people have been forced to flee their homes, including more than 7.7 million that have fled to other countries, according to UN figures.
