Khurelsukh met with the UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and small Island Developing States Courtenay Rattnay

As a landlocked developing country, Mongolia attaches high importance to the issue of countries with special needs in the United Nations and actively participates in the activities in this area.

President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh met with the UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States C.Rattray on 2 of November on the sidelines of the COP26 World Leaders Summit, held in Glasgow and exchanged views on bilateral cooperation.

The President congratulated the High Representative on his appointment and wished him every success in future endeavors. He noted that Mongolia is attaching high priority to overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, as well as to intensifying the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Vienna Action Plan, and the Roadmap for Landlocked Developing Countries, and highlighted the initiatives and measures undertaken at the national level to combat global warming and climate change.

U.Khurelsukh further expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance of the High Representative Office in the implementation of the agreement for the establishment of the Ulaanbaatar-based International Think Tank for LLDCs and its full launch.

High Representative C.Rattray expressed his appreciation for Mongolia’s contribution to protecting the interests of the LLDCs and expressed the readiness of his office to further continue its support and assistance in the areas of transport, logistics, trade facilitation, and capacity building. The High Representative also stressed that the national campaign to plant billions of trees, initiated by the President of Mongolia, will make a significant contribution to the efforts of the international community to mitigate the impacts of global warming, desertification, land degradation, and climate change.

During the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on the possibility of organizing international events or conferences on the special needs of LLDCs in Ulaanbaatar in the future.
