Japan’s Defense Minister Hamada has inspected the new destroyers Mogami-class frigate and Kumano-class frigate, which docked at the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Maritime’s naval base in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, in the south of Tokyo on Monday.

The destroyers, which were commissioned in March ( Kumano ) and April ( Mogami ), are featuring stealth and multifunctional capabilities.

The two vessels are engaged in warning and surveillance, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare and minesweeping, strengthening the Japan Self Defense Force’s warning and surveillance capabilities in a tense situation environment around Japan.

22 Mogami-class frigates are to be constructed in the upcoming years at a pace of two per year according to the Defense Ministry’s plans.
