LAHORE, PAKISTAN – OCTOBER 22: Three policemen were martyred and six got severe injuries in the clashes with the workers of a banned political party TLP in the provincial capital Lahore, confirmed police officials on Friday (Oct. 22).

A statement released by the police revealed that the police officers were stationed near the Katcheri Chowk. They were hit by a TLP vehicle.

Spokesperson of Deputy Inspector General operations Mazhar Hussain said, “Two of the slain officials have been identified as Ayub and Khalid. Six officers are injured seriously and were taken to the nearest hospital.”

Hussain also said that the protesters hurled petrol bombs and officers just tried to stop them from damaging the public property.

On the other hand, Mufti Wazeer Rizvi council member of TLP told the Anadolu agency that two of their workers have been martyred in the clashes and they have bullet wounds on their bodies.

However, Arif Rana spokesman of Lahore police while talking to media said that the police had to fire the teargas as the protesters were attacking check posts.

Members of the banned TLP announced that they would march from Lahore to Islamabad to force the government to release the founder’s heir, Saad Rizvi.

The long march towards the capital Islamabad started after Wednesday evening when the sit-in for the release of TLP’s incarcerated leader Rizvi could not get the desired results after the talks with the government.

Pakistani cities on Friday (Oct. 22) have enhanced security measures ahead of planned demonstrations by the opposition parties across the country.

Supporters of opposition parties took to the streets on Friday to protest the rising inflation in the country.

The government blocked roads in major cities including Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi and took additional measures to brace for separate protests by a banned outfit and Opposition parties.
