US requested Uganda to host 2,000 Afghan refugees

KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) – Uganda’s foreign minister on Thursday said that the country is yet to make a decision on the US request to host 2,000 refugees from Afghanistan.

Last evening, Ugandan senior officials, including Foreign Minister Jeje Odongo, held a crisis meeting to discuss the plan to host at least 2,000 refugees fleeing from Afghanistan.

“We were asked to host them. The country was approached due to its humanitarian record but a decision is yet to be made,” the minister told parliament’s committee on foreign affairs.

The country has been awash with news of the pending arrival of 2,000 refugees from Afghanistan. Government officials had told the media that Uganda would host 2,000 refugees on the US request.
