United Kingdom deploys Richmond frigate to the Red Sea

The United Kingdom has sent the frigate Richmond to the Red Sea, which will help ensure freedom of navigation in the region.

According to the Report, this decision was announced by Grant Shapps, Head of the UK Ministry of Defence, on his page on X.

“Together with the United States, we will continue to play a leading role in how the global community responds to the crisis and will do whatever it takes to protect lives and the global economy,” he wrote.

Following the escalation of fighting in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis of the Ansarullah rebel movement in Yemen said they would strike Israeli territory and prevent related ships from passing through Red Sea waters and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian territories was halted. The Houthis have attacked more than 20 ships and civilian vessels in the Red Sea since mid-November.

In response to the Houthis, US officials announced the formation of an international coalition and the preparation of Operation Prosperity Guardian to ensure freedom of navigation and protection of ships in the Red Sea.
