Special representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs meets with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation

Ambassador Noh Kyu-duk, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, had a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the Russian delegation to the Six-Party Talks Igor Morgulov in Seoul on August 24.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged in-depth views on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and discussed ways of cooperation between Korea and Russia to achieve progress toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Amb. Noh appreciated Russia’s support and cooperation for the resumption of U.S.-DPRK dialogue and the promotion of inter-Korean cooperation and requested that Russia play a constructive role in managing the situation in a stable manner and inducing North Korea back to dialogue.

Deputy Minister Morgulov agreed on the importance of stabilizing the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in the region and on the need for a prompt resumption of dialogue between relevant countries, including U.S.-DPRK and inter-Korean dialogue, and highly appreciated the efforts of the Korean government to this end. He also reaffirmed the Russian government’s will to play a constructive role for the peaceful resolution of the Korean Peninsula issue.

The two sides agreed to continue close consultation at each level to advance the peace process on the Korean Peninsula, and Deputy Minister Morgulov invited Amb. Noh to visit Russia for their next meeting.
