Russia’s daily coronavirus death toll hits new all-time high

Collective immunity stands at 46,8% – three-fourths of figure needed to stop virus transmission

MOSCOW (AA) – Russia’s daily coronavirus death toll reached a new high on Friday as 1,163 people died over the past day, pushing the overall count to 236,220.

A total of 39,849 people contracted the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the nationwide tally to 8.43 million, according to a daily report by Russia’s coronavirus emergency task force.

The recoveries rose to 7.3 million as 30,462 more people got over the illness.

Russia’s collective immunity currently stands at 46,8%, which is three-fourths of the figure needed to stop the virus’ transmission.

According to the authorities, over 50.9 million people have been fully vaccinated in Russia as of Friday and more than 56.78 million got their first doses.

Since December 2019, the pandemic has claimed more than 4.98 million lives in 192 countries and regions, with over 245.6 million cases reported worldwide, according to the US’ John Hopkins University.
