Russia to hold series of military drills

Military drill engages over 140 warships, 60 aircraft, about 10,000 military personnel

MOSCOW (AA) – The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Thursday it scheduled in January and February a series of exercises “in all areas of responsibility” for the Russian Navy.

The military drills will be held in the waters of the seas adjacent to the Russian territory, as well as in “operationally important areas of the World Ocean,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Separate exercises will be held in the waters of the Mediterranean, Northern, Okhotsk Seas, in the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean and in the Pacific Ocean,” it added.

Over 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 units of military equipment, about 10,000 military personnel will be engaged in the exercises, it said.

The ministry also recalled that currently, four Russian warships are taking part in the joint military drill CHIRU-2Q22 with China and Iran in the Gulf of Oman and the airspace above it.

As part of the exercises, it is planned to carry out artillery firing at a naval target, joint tactical maneuvering, search and rescue at sea, organization of inspection, and release of the vessel captured by pirates.

After the end of the CHIRU-2Q22, the Russian warships will join the rest of the fleet to participate in the Russian unilateral naval exercises.
