Uzbekistan’s president declares state of emergency in Karakalpakstan

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a Decree “On the introduction of a state of emergency in the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan”

According to the Decree, the state of emergency was introduced from 00:01 on 3 July 2022 to 00:00 on 2 August 2022 to ensure the safety of citizens, protect their rights and freedoms, restore law and order on the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

The decree was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev after demonstrations concerning the government’s proposed constitutional amendments over Karakalpakstan’s autonomous status.
