United Nations Special Rapporteur on adequate housing Balakrishnan Rajagopal will visit Uzbekistan on August 19-30, UzA reports.
The Special Rapporteur will consider issues of affordability of housing prices, the possibility of its use by all groups and categories of the country’s population, and the process of forced eviction.
In addition, attention will be paid to aspects of climate change’s impact on housing law and people’s involvement in decision-making regarding urban development.
The UN representative is expected to visit the cities of Tashkent, Jizzakh, Samarkand, and Bukhara, as well as nearby areas, including student dormitories and shelters for people fleeing domestic violence or left homeless, and hold meetings with representatives of national and local authorities, judges, residents, and the business community.
Balakrishnan Rajagopal will give a press conference and submit a report to the UN Human Rights Council in March 2025.
