The UN Human Rights Council in Geneva unanimously adopted the resolution in support of the UN Human Rights Advisers (HRA) initiated and promoted by Kyrgyzstan.
The ultimate goal of the resolution is to ensure provision of assistance to small and/or unrepresented states in Geneva by strengthening the institute of HRA to improve both the situation with human rights and interaction with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan said.
During the presentation of the draft resolution to the Council Members, Ambassador Omar Sultanov noted that “the deeper understanding of the HRA by the Council would help to strengthen the focus on support for countries that are underrepresented in Geneva, ensuring that their human rights challenges are addressed and that they receive the necessary advisory assistance”.
The adopted resolution is a harmonious continuation of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy in the HRC, aimed at building constructive relations with international agencies and supporting developing, small and island countries.
