Spain and Poland are set to strengthen bilateral cooperation in defense on Wednesday with the signing of a memorandum.

The agreement will be signed during the 15th bilateral summit that will be co-chaired by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and his Polish counterpart Mateusz Morawiecki in Warsaw, according to Spanish news agency EFE.

The leaders are also expected to discuss Russia’s war on Ukraine, and the solidarity shown by Poland, which hosts the most number of Ukrainian refugees.

Another agreement that will be signed is on transport, which aims to seal participation of Spanish companies in the construction of a mega communications hub in Poland.

Sanchez will be accompanied at the summit by ministers of foreign affairs, defense, transport, industry and inclusion, social security and migration, who will also hold separate meetings with their Polish counterparts.

Sanchez was initially scheduled to travel to Moldova and Poland in April to show his support for the two countries bordering Ukraine, and therefore highly affected by the Russian war which began on Feb. 24.

He decided to postpone the trip due to a vote on a bill with measures to deal with the crisis caused by the war.
