China’s share in Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade reached a historic high of 35% in 2024. This increase shows that economic relations between the two countries are strengthening and China has become Kyrgyzstan’s largest trading partner.
Kyrgyzstan’s total foreign trade volume recorded significant growth in 2024, reaching $10 billion. Trade with China, which accounts for 35% of this trade volume, is concentrated mainly in electronics, textiles and agricultural products. Experts note that China’s increasing investments in Central Asia under the “One Belt, One Road” initiative has positively affected the volume of trade with Kyrgyzstan. In addition, free trade agreements and cross-border cooperation projects signed between the two countries are also among the factors supporting this growth. In order to further develop these trade relations, the Kyrgyz government plans to improve logistics infrastructure and simplify customs procedures. Various incentives and support programs are also on the agenda to facilitate local producers’ access to international markets. However, some economists warn that this high dependence on a single country for foreign trade may carry economic risks. Therefore, it is recommended that Kyrgyzstan diversify its trading partners and make its economic structure more resilient.
