Participants emphasised the importance of strengthening international partnership in transport and logistics for trade and economic relations.
On 22 February, as part of the 86th High Level Session of the Internal Transport Committee of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the UN Office at Geneva hosted an event entitled “Towards Sustainable Transport: Best Practices, Challenges and Solutions”. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The event was organised by the Turkmenistan Mission to the UN Office in Geneva and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The meeting was attended by about 70 representatives from more than 40 countries and international organisations, including heads of diplomatic missions and industry experts.
The heads of transport agencies of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Iran, as well as UNECE Deputy Executive Secretary Dmitry Maryasin and Secretary General of the International Road Transport Association Umberto de Pretto spoke at the meeting.
The participants of the event positively assessed Turkmenistan’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the transport sector. They also exchanged views on the initiatives of the President of the country to create favourable international conditions for the development of the sector.
The sides exchanged views on the importance of strengthening international transport partnership for the development of trade and economic relations. The availability of modern transport infrastructure also contributes to the successful adaptation of logistics chains to ongoing changes.
The speakers gave recommendations on how to increase the efficiency of sustainable transport development, including in the field of environmentally friendly and sustainable transport communications. They also talked about the transition to modern technologies that save resources in the sector.
