Memorandum on construction of Suusamyr-Kokomeren chain of hydropower plants signed in Moscow

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan and the Eurasian Development Bank signed a memorandum of cooperation on Suusamyr-Kokomeren chain of hydropower plants, the Ministry of Economy reported on Dec. 12.

The given project will allow to meet growing electricity needs, to reduce emission of greenhouse gases and increase export of electricity to the Central Asian states.

The Eurasian Development Bank acts as a financial partner of the Kyrgyz Republic in implementation of the given project.

Signing of the memorandum entails preparation of key documents, including preparation of the preliminary feasibility study, assessment of financial and economic model, analysis of social and environmental impact, selection of major technical solutions, development of measures of state support necessary for implementation of the project.

The project is aligned with the country’s priorities and the EDB strategy in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2022-2026, which includes modernization of hydropower infrastructure and the construction of new power plants.
