Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan and US Under Secretary discuss bilateral cooperation

 Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev met with U.S. Under Secretary of State John Bass on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 26.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral relations and further cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Jeenbek Kulubaev noted the importance of further cooperation in strengthening political institutions, freedom of speech and human rights in the country. The Minister also emphasized the importance of the C5+1 format for strengthening regional cooperation.

The parties stressed the importance of bilateral consultations held in Washington in 2023 and in Bishkek in April 2024, confirming their intention to continue the dialogue on key issues of cooperation.

During the meeting, attention was paid to the development of economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United States. The Kyrgyz Foreign Minister noted the need to attract American investment to Kyrgyzstan, especially in such areas as the development of renewable energy sources, the green and creative economy and IT sector.

The Minister thanked the United States for its support in repatriating Kyrgyz citizens from Syria and for the humanitarian aid provided to the defense establishments of the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the meeting, Kulubaev also asked for support of Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.

In addition, Kyrgyzstan invited the United States to participate in the Global Mountain Summit “Bishkek+25” in 2027, which will discuss the results of a five-year action plan for the development of mountain regions.
