Belgium to participate in EU naval operation in the Red Sea

Belgium will participate in an EU naval operation to ensure safety of navigation in the Red Sea.

According to Report, this news was reported by the Belgian daily Soir, citing a cabinet decision.

“The mission will be defensive in nature,” the publication added. The parameters of Belgium’s participation in the mission will be announced later on Friday.

Earlier, European Union diplomatic chief Josep Borrell said that a significant part of the cargo shipped through the Red Sea goes to Europe and that a prolonged blockade of the route would lead to additional transport costs.
