At the invitation of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Thursday arrived in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent on a state visit.
At the Tashkent International Airport, the Turkmen President was greeted by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Acting Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov and Tashkent Mayor Jahongir Artykkhojayev, according to the Press Service of the President of Uzbekistan.
The motorcade with the Turkmen delegation then proceeded to Yangi Uzbekiston Park, where the Head of Turkmenistan laid flowers at the Independence Monument of Uzbekistan.
During the two-day visit, the Heads of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will hold talks on further development of strategic Uzbek-Turkmen relations.
The focus will be on the prospects of practical interaction in key areas, including boosting mutual trade, establishing industrial cooperation, making good use of transport and transit potential, implementing major projects in the water sector, intensifying inter-regional contacts, as well as pursuing cultural and humanitarian exchange programs.
A joint statement and a package of bilateral documents is expected to be adopted at the end of the summit.
The visit of Turkmen President also includes a meeting at the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and a visit to the sights of the city of Samarkand.
