ANKARA (AA) – Turkey’s parliament speaker on Thursday congratulated Tajikistan on the 30th anniversary of its independence.

Mustafa Sentop sent letters to Tajikistan’s Speaker of House of Representatives Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda and Chairman of the National Assembly of Tajikistan Rustam Emomalievich Rahmonov.

“On behalf of the Turkish nation and myself, I sincerely congratulate the friendly and brotherly people of Tajikistan on the occasion of the National Day of Tajikistan,” Sentop wrote.

He noted that there were deep historical, cultural and human ties on the basis of brotherly and friendly relations between the two countries.

“Close relations between our parliaments are also developing on this ground, gaining momentum in bilateral and multilateral platforms,” he added.

Tajikistan gained independence from the Soviet Union on Sept. 9, 1991.
