Speaker of Kyrgyz Parliament urges to change foreign names of Bishkek’s districts

“All districts of Bishkek need to be renamed. Some settlements of Kyrgyzstan still have names in other languages,” the Speaker of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, Nurlan Shakiyev, said in his speech at the National Congress held in Bishkek on November 25, Report informs via TASS.

According to him, the plans for developing and implementing the state language in Kyrgyzstan have not yet been fully realized.

The deputies of the Kyrgyz parliament had previously taken a similar initiative and proposed to give Kyrgyz names to all districts of Bishkek. It was reported that currently, there are Leninsky, Pervomaysky, Oktyabrsky, and Sverdlovsky districts in the country’s capital.

Kyrgyz is the state language of the country. However, Russian was also designated as an official language. According to sociological surveys, the population of all regions of Kyrgyzstan mainly uses the state language in everyday life.
