On 4 July, a telephone conversation took place between President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the European Council Charles Michel.
Issues of further expansion of the Uzbek-European multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation were considered.
At the beginning of the conversation, the head of our state expressed sincere gratitude for the all-round assistance provided in carrying out irreversible democratic and socio-economic transformations in New Uzbekistan.
In turn, the President of the European Council spoke in support of Uzbekistan’s efforts to continue the course of open reforms in the country, aimed at the formation of a strong civil society and the rule of law.
In this context, the inadmissibility of destabilizing the situation in Karakalpakstan by individual destructive forces was especially noted. Charles Michel asked to convey condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed as a result of the riots organized by criminal elements.
During the conversation, special attention was paid to the issue of completing the preparation of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the EU.
The importance of increasing mutual trade and investment was emphasized, using the advantages of the Generalized System of Preferences Plus.
The parties dwelled separately on the promotion of specific programs and projects of practical cooperation, primarily in the field of “green economy”, digitalization, innovation, logistics, agriculture, ecology, education and healthcare.
An exchange of views took place on the current situation in the Central Asian region and further raising the level of multilateral dialogue with the EU.
The organization of major international events in our country aimed at strengthening interconnectedness, as well as ensuring security and stability in the region, including promoting the establishment of lasting peace and providing all possible assistance to the people of Afghanistan, was supported.
