Today in our capital was held a press conference on the preliminary results of the early presidential election of the Republic of Uzbekistan by the Bureau of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

At this conference talked about the safe conduct of the electoral processes held in the regions, measures aimed at preventing violations of the law, as well as about the polling stations organized in penal institutions.

It should be noted that, based on the changes made to the legislation this year, in contrast to the previous elections, for the first time in prisons, convicts serving sentences for committing serious and extremely serious crimes also took part in this year’s elections.

Officials said 33,753 people in detention and detention facilities are eligible to vote in the election. In order to ensure their legal right, a total of 48 polling stations were established in the places of detention and deprivation of liberty in agreement with the Central Election Commission. The right of every convict to participate in the election was fully ensured.

Also, during the election campaign, a total of 272 events were organized with the participation of the representatives of the candidates and convicts kept in prisons and places of deprivation of liberty.
