SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) will submit proposals to KazMunayGas JSC (KMG, Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company) for the Baku-Supsa route within a month.
Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KazMunayGas JSC, made this statement in an exclusive interview with Trend during his visit to Baku.
“At our meeting with Mr Rövshan Najafov (President of SOCAR), we agreed that SOCAR will submit proposals to us within a month, including the tariff policy on the Baku-Supsa route,” Mirzagaliyev said.
Earlier, a source in the Kazakhstan Energy Ministry reported that the possibility of transporting up to 3 million tonnes of Kazakh oil per year through the Baku-Supsa pipeline was being discussed with the Azerbaijani side.
This was later confirmed by Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev. “The possibility of using the Baku-Supsa pipeline with a capacity of 5 million tonnes per year is being examined. In general, negotiations in this direction are underway with all interested parties,” Satkaliyev said.
In 2022, Azerbaijan offered Kazakhstan to use the Baku-Supsa pipeline. The capacity of Baku-Supsa is 5-6 million tonnes of oil per year.
Meanwhile, in 2023, Kazakhstan transported 1.39 million tonnes of oil through Baku via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline.
