As part of routine combat training, the servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent have worked out new tactics of conducting a modern battle of a “drifting” mortar at the Stepanakert training ground in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Artillery crews fired volleys at unobserved targets located behind natural obstacles in the mountains from guns installed in car bodies.
Mortar men in mountainous terrain in a short period of time hit about 50 targets imitating armored vehicles, manpower and enemy positions at a distance of 500 to 2,000 meters.
The tactics of “drifting” mortars allows the peacekeeping crews of the guns to instantly repel the attacks of superior forces of the conventional enemy and to change firing positions as quickly as possible within the framework of counter-battery warfare.
In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, from 00:00 (Moscow time) on November 10, 2020, a complete ceasefire and all hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh were announced.
A peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation has been deployed to monitor the ceasefire and military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh.
