Today has been considered a historic day by Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani after the country officially submitted the application for membership in the European Union, APA reports citing SchengenVisaInfo.
After the signing ceremony held together with the country’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti, and Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo Gluk Konjufca, Kosovo’s President said that this is a step to bring Kosovo closer to the European Union.
“December 14 has double importance for the history of Kosovo. On the one hand, we are applying for membership in the European Union and on the other hand, we are marking the anniversary of the founding of our army. Two acts that go towards the realization of our vision, Euro-Atlantic integration,” she pointed out in this regard.
She said that there has never been another alternative for this country and its citizens.
“Dreams come true only when you act and ambitions become tangible only when you work. On the eve of the 15th anniversary of the declaration of independence, this act is dedicated to all citizens of our country, devout Europeans and promoters of European values,” Kosovo’s President pointed out in this regard.
She emphasized that the process of becoming a member of the European Union is not a uniform process adding that the whole process may be long-term, however, she stressed that the Balkan country is determined to succeed. Osmani also added that Kosovo will do its part of the work so the EU can do its part.
The decision to submit the application in order to become a candidate for membership in the EU was confirmed yesterday during the government’s meeting, by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
The first deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo in charge of European integration, Besnik Bislimi, told Politico that the country could become part of the EU by 2030.
